Dr Ian Dunbar, PhD, BVetMed, MRCVS, CPDT Auckland 12 - 14 Feb and Christchurch 20 - 21 Feb 2010 Ian just spent a couple of weeks in NZ with a 3 day seminar in Auckland and a 2 day seminar in Christchurch. What an awesome time for everyone there. A press release was sent out regarding Ian's visit and I was fortunate to speak with Jax at Classic Hits Whangarei on air about his visit and the importance of socialisation of puppies and other topics. I was also contacted by Christchurch TVNZ and arranged a time to meet in Christchurch when we were there. Auckland's topics for the seminar certainly were very topical for the time; aggression, constraints of learning and and continued each day in the outdoor restaurant area of the Lincoln Green Hotel each evening, with participants make the most of this opportunity. At the dinner on Saturday night Ian talked on a range of topics enlightening everyone to other aspects of his life. But there was no time to stop after Auckland as we were then onto Christchurch. Ian chose to take the Overland from Auckland to Christchurch, taking in the ferry to cross the Cook Strait arriving in Christchurch on Thursday evening. Christchurch's seminar was held at the quaint Heartland Hotel Cotswold. It's Tudor decor bought back memories of my years in England. Quaintness aside, the venue was excellent. On the Friday in Christchurch, and after much tooing and froing about the time, a TVNZ crew arrived in Hagley Park and Ian was quickly talking to Charlotte the interviewer for a short segment. This started with a general interview then a demonstraton with some dogs describing off leash work and the importance of handling and socialising of dogs. To see Ian on TVNZ click here. Ian started the Saturday morning session, however just prior to 11am, Ian left for a spot on Radio New Zealand with Kim Hill which was arranged by Blair, from School of the Naked Dog. If you would like to hear the interview go to: Dr Ian Dunbar and Kim Hill Interview. The seminar continued on his return and was a great success on both Saturday and Sunday. Again Ian continued discussions with participants in the restaurant area prior to the evening dinner on Saturday and like in Auckland we got more insite into Ian's family, the many dogs that he has owned or adopted, and his adventures around the world. Keep up with with Ian's blog through www.dogstardaily.com Both Ian and I appreciate you giving up your weekends to learn more to enhance your knowledge of dog training and look for new ways to provide safe training environmnents for both owners and their dogs throughoutNew Zealand. This was Ian's second visit to New Zealand and maybe he will come back again soon.... |
